S otheby’s Private Sales team are proud to present an exciting selection of Contemporary and Modern Art for immediate purchase from masters such as Jean Dubuffet, Pablo Picasso, Peter Doig, Roy Lichtenstein and Albert Oehlen. Exhibiting alongside the Contemporary Auction previews, over 20 works will be exhibited in the 1&2 Gallery at Sotheby’s New Bond Street. Paysage au château (avec 3 personnages) from 1975 is one of Dubuffet seminal works from the Lieux abrégés series. Vibrant and majestically composed, this work highlights the mastery of synthetic abstraction within Dubuffet’s championed oeuvre and represents the culmination of his practiced form, focusing on style, composition and colour within his paintings.

Enigmatic and theatrical, displaying thunderbolts of ben-day dots and expressive strokes which transcend each other in layers of energetic precision, Reflections on Brushstrokes is an archetypal example from Roy Lichtenstein’s important series – Reflections, merged with the motifs from his equally iconic Brushstrokes series which captivated the artist for the final years of his working career. Sotheby’s are excited to have this seminal work on view in our galleries over the Contemporary sale season.
