In Focus: Warhol on Paper
Selling Exhibition • 17 June–31 July 2022 • Aspen

T o get away from the bustling city, Aspen existed as an escape for Warhol. Referring to it as his "toy town," it served as a place for him to reconnect with nature, create meaningful memories with friends, and partake in various outdoor pursuits. Celebrating Warhol's decades-long love affair with Aspen, Sotheby's Aspen is pleased to present its inaugural show In Focus: Warhol on Paper, an exhibition celebrating Warhol's output on paper of some of his most iconic series and subjects. The exhibition will be on view at our gallery June 17 to July 31.

Widely recognized for his depictions of Pop, celebrities and consumer culture, Warhol is canonized as one of the most influential and significant artists of the 20th century. Warhol's engagement with Pop was influenced early in his career by life, death and the human body. The exhibited works underscore the artist's study of bodily forms and the intersection of the mind and body in association with the outside world. Minimal drawings emphasizing Warhol's mastery of line juxtaposed with his signature color-blocking prints make for a dynamic show, highlighting the breadth of the artist's practice with paper.
