Israeli & International Art

Overview

The Israeli & International Art Department offers works by modern Israeli artists such as Reuven Rubin, Nachum Gutman, Mordechai Ardon, Yehezkel Streichman, Josef Zaritsky, Michael Gross, Yaacov Agam and Moshe Gershuni, as well as important contemporary Israeli artists such as Michal Rovner, Sigalit Landau, Yehudit Sasportas and Adi Nes, amongst others. Our auctions also feature artists of the École de Paris such as Marc Chagall, Moise Kisling, Chaim Soutine and Jules Pascin, and German Impressionists such as Max Liebermann and Lesser Ury. These works are included regularly in the International section of the Israeli Art sales alongside works by Russian avant-garde artists and modern British artists such as David Bomberg.

Sotheby’s is the only international auction house to hold annual sales dedicated to Israeli art. These sales originated in Israel in 1988 and the growing demand for Israeli art around the world led Sotheby’s to move our sales to New York in 2004. Our seasoned team of experts in New York and Tel Aviv has overseen notable sales of Israeli Art that have brought strong prices for important works by leading Israeli artists across all periods and schools.

Sotheby's sales of Israeli Art are held annually in New York in December.
