S otheby’s European Paintings Department leads the market in Greek art, offering paintings and sculpture from 1800 to the present day. Since launching dedicated Greek art sales in London in 2001, Sotheby’s has presented more than 1,000 works and achieved over £60 million in total sales, setting world‑record prices for more than 40 major Greek artists including Theodoros Ralli, Constantinos Parthenis, Constantinos Volanakis, Nikolaos Gysis, Nikos Hadjikiriakos‑Ghika, Nikiforos Lytras, Yannis Tsarouchis and Yannis Spyropoulos. The department also holds the highest auction price ever achieved for a Greek artwork: Constantinos Volanakis’s The Arrival of Karaiskakis at Faliro, sold for £1,609,250, a benchmark that continues to underscore Sotheby’s leadership in the Greek art market.
