To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GMT-Master collection in 2005, Rolex unveiled the GMT-Master II and debuted the brand’s patented new ceramic bezel insert. The new-look GMT-Master II models were a hit. Everyone wanted the new ceramic bezel insert. So, when the steel Ref 116710 arrived in 2007, it received a warm welcome from collectors. In addition to changing the bezel insert, Rolex also gave the 116710 an upgraded Maxi dial, a newer case and bracelet, and a new cal. 3186 Perpetual movement. The movement, while hidden away within the watch itself, is an impressive upgrade in its own right. It now boasts Rolex's patented Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and a smoother hour hand. It retains the GMT-Master II's signature independent 24-hour hand, which allows the wearer to read up to 3 time zones at once. This watch is undeniably modern, yet it still exudes a classic pilot's watch design.
