Especially built for marathoning, this Nike shoe was next generation top-of-the-line when released. Featuring lightweight nylon uppers and the iconic waffle sole, named for the patented waffle iron-like pattern of the rubber outsole. Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman developed waffle soles after being inspired by his wife’s waffle iron. The polygon stud technology increased stabilization with gripping edges that improved traction.
