CONVERSE

The 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles marked the second time the California city hosted the epic event. The theme was “Stars in Motion,” an appropriate slogan for a competition that featured many celebrities and public figures, in addition to star athletes. Incumbent president Ronald Regan opened the games and famed composer John Williams arranged the Grammy award-winning soundtrack. The financial and civic success of the event provided a model for future Olympic hosts including Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996. 

Among the stars of the USA Men’s Basketball team were legends-in-the-making Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and Alvin Roberston. Alvin Robertson was renowned for his defensive expertise and averaged 7.8 points per game helping Team USA win the Gold Medal. Roberston would go on to play in the NBA for 10 seasons, retiring with accolades that include NBA Defensive Player of the Year and 4 All-Star performances, in addition to his Olympic Gold Medal.
