Catalogue Note

Héctor Esrawe's approach to design involves the reassignment of value or intention to common materials. Esrawe's Gear Coffee Table takes its inspiration from the honeycombed texture of cardboard cut in an irregular shape. A series of aleatory vertical patterns along the edge of the bronze sculpture glisten with sculptural expression and a newfound materiality expressed by form and the luster of the object's varied surfaces.

Esrawe's (b. 1968) design includes a variety of typologies from furniture and objects to interiors, commercial spaces, installations and cultural exhibitions. His work is defined by the passion and respect he feels towards objects and furniture created by hand, together with the use of contemporary technologies and industrial processes. Esrawe firmly believes in collaboration and multidisciplinary interaction and he is a co-founder of MASA Galeria, EWE and Vissio glass studio. He received his Industrial Designer degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México (UIA) in 1992, where he was a design professor from 1997 to 2001. Later, he was Design Director at CENTRO Casa de Estudios, where he created the Industrial Design Degree. In 2003, he launched Esrawe Studio, a multidisciplinary design practice which he still runs today.
