Catalogue Note

Musaed Al Hulis was born in Al Baha in 1973. He holds a master’s degree in Design Analysis of Vehicle Systems from the University of Huddersfield in the UK, and now lectures at the Technical College in Jeddah. His artistic practice, including the present work, functions as a cautionary reminder against moral corruption and ideological distortion, both of which are diametrically opposed to values fundamental to a social infrastructure that Al Hulis believes in. The Sleep of the Wicked 2 reflects the ephemerality of the present and the unknown of the afterlife. In recognition of his extensive support of the arts in Saudi Arabia, Al Hulis has received accolades of appreciation, and in 2011, he received an acquisition’s prize during the Contemporary Islamic Art Exhibition. He is a board member at the Fine Artists House and Founder of Tasami Creative Lab in Jeddah. He has exhibited extensively within the Kingdom and internationally, such as at Art Dubai and #COMETOGETHER organised by Edge of Arabia, 2012.
