Catalogue Note
Born in 1952, Mohammed Al Munif was raised in Hawtah Sudayr, and later moved to Riyadh in 1972 to study at the Institute of Art Education. A painter, writer and art critic, Al Munif worked as a writer for Al Yamamah magazine and also as the editor of the Fine Arts section of Al Jazeera (1976-2016) alongside a teaching career that he sustained for 25 years before fully devoting his time to becoming a full-time artist in 2020. Painting local scenes in watercolour and oil paint, Al Munif renders natural Saudi landscapes, figures in traditional clothing and the local agricultural environment. He was Vice-President of the Saudi Art Association (2012-2017) and now Chairman of the Board. Al Munif has participated in local group exhibitions, including the General Presidency for Youth Welfare, Saudi Arabia, 1976, as well as solo exhibitions across the Kingdom, Europe and the US. His career has been celebrated with accolades including the 2017 Badge of Honour from the Cooperation Council for Creators.
