Catalogue Note
Hanan Abdullah Bahamdan was born in Riyadh in 1966 and studied in both her hometown, Riyadh as well as Cairo and London. Hanan holds a diploma in portraiture from the Heatherly School of Art in London as well as a B.Sc. in Business Administration from King Saud University in Riyadh. She also specialised in paste art under the close supervision of the renowned Egyptian artist working in pastels, Mohammed Sabri. Her works captured the attention of the public during her first exhibition in Riyadh in 1991. She has subsequently held exhibitions in Cario (1996), Jeddah (the Atelier of Fine Arts, 2001), and Cairo (The Plastic Arts Gallery at the Egyptian Opera House, 2005). In 2007, she became the first female artist from the Kingdom to be offered in one of Sotheby’s auctions. Her work features in several collections including that of the General Presidency for Youth Welfare in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Ministry of Labour together various private collections in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, England and Greece.
