Awdh Al Zahrani was born in Mecca in 1970. He holds an MA in Art Education from Umm Al-Qura University. Al Zahrani’s practice seeks to produce works that present a heightened emotional state with compositions that draw on a cinematographic perspective. Influenced by the diversity of viewers that come to Mecca, Al Zahrani has described the voices, sounds and scents of the city as an ongoing source of inspiration and mesmerisation. He has held solo exhibitions in Jeddah and in Paris, through a residency sponsored by the Al Mansouria Foundation in 2009.

The present work, titled One Hour Before Afternoon evokes a specific moment in time and tries to capture the mood this elicits through its depth of colour and thickly applied brushstrokes.
