Ali Al Saffar was born in 1954 in Al Qatif, a city to the north of Dammam. He studied at the Arts Education Institute in Riyadh (1978) and obtained a further degree in Art Education from the Complementary Faculty in 1986. Al Saffar was responsible for the Arts Department at the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts in Dammam in 2000. He founded the Visual Arts Association in Al Qatif and was a member of international societies specialising in Art, notably in Bahrain and Korea. Over his career, Al Saffar has participated in over 400 local and international exhibitions, notably in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Kuwait, Damascus, Cairo and Argentina. He was also the recipient of a number of awards, including first prize at an environment-inspired exhibition the year of his graduation. The artist is known for his observational eye and inspiration taken by the nature which he grew up around.
