Stibnite
Wuning Mine, Qingjiang, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Pref., Jiangxi Province, China
This exceptional stibnite specimen originates from the renowned Wuning Mine in Jiangxi Province, China, a locality that set the modern benchmark for the species. The recovery of the Wuning deposit in 2005 produced a limited number of cabinet-quality examples that rivaled historic material while establishing a new standard in scale and presence. This specimen is composed of sharply formed, elongated crystals that have formed into two interlocking sprays, creating a dynamic and sculptural composition. The individual crystals display the distinctive paneled faces characteristic of fine stibnite, creating a network of reflective surfaces that produce an intense, mirror-like luster. With its gunmetal coloration, strong symmetry, and sleek surfaces, the piece appears almost machine-made despite being entirely natural. Its balanced form and ideal scale place it among the finest examples from this historic find.
