Between 1961 and 1969, 161 episodes of the classic 60s spy series The Avengers were produced. The dubbed German version originally began with the fourth season of the 1965 British original and premiered on ZDF on October 18, 1966. When the German broadcaster ZDF bought The Avengers for the German market, they excluded certain episodes. To capitalize on the huge success of the TV show, another company edited two of these episodes that had never been broadcast at the time ('The Avengers: The £ 50,000 Breakfast', 1967 and 'The Avengers: Murdersville', 1967) and combined and screened them as a feature-length cinematic release in Germany.

Since its release in 1968, this film, 'Emma Peel: My Greatest Adventures with John Steed,' has never been shown again and has been considered lost since 2020.
