Description
First printing of the sequel to the beloved Pippi Longstocking, following the continued adventures of the Swedish girl who lives alone and does as she pleases.
Lindgren first came up with the character of Pippi when her own nine-year-old daughter asked for a story while she was home sick from school. Although she lacks the manners and education of a more traditional upbringing, Pippi's practicality and no-nonsense attitude are often a rebuke to some of the more arbitrary rules of society. Pippi Longstocking is now one of the most beloved children's characters in the world, though Astrid Lindgren initially struggled to find a publisher for her stories of the unruly girl. The final storyline in this book incorporates racial slurs; in later editions, the slurs were replaced. Owing to the quality of materials in postwar Sweden, copies in this condition are not easy to find.
