Description

Signed limited edition of Aladdin And His Wonderful Lamp, one of 250 numbered copies signed by Mackenzie.

  • Illustrated by Thomas Mackenzie (New Zealand).
  • Text adapted by Arthur Ransome.
  • London: Nisbet, [1919].
  • Illustrated by Mackenzie with 12 magnificent tipped-in color plates with captioned tissue guards, decorative initials and text borders and a profusion of stunning black-and-white details on every page of text.
  • Original full white cloth with elaborate gilt pictorial cover, silhouette endpapers, top edge gilt, other edges uncut.

Mackenzie's most desired work, his interpretation of the classic Middle Eastern folktale set in China, traditionally incorporated into European translations of the Arabian Nights. The in-text illustrations are beautifully reproduced due to the high quality of the paper. This is a lavish illustrated version of Aladdin in English, and one of the most sought from the Golden Age.
