- Dated January 10 with no year written, but with recipient note "1/16.72."
- It is written on what appears to be a piece of notebook paper, as discerned by faint blue horizontal lines.
- Letter reads in full: "Wheeling, Jan. 10. / Redpath and Fall - / Gentlemen - Enclosed please find N.Y. draft in your favor for $180.00 P. Ack. [Please acknowledge] - / Yours truly Samuel L. Clemens."
