Description

An inscribed first edition in English (translated by the author), of Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, preceding the British edition.

  • Samuel Beckett (Irish).
  • New York: Grove Press, (1954).
  • Octavo.
  • Pagination irregular, [vii] pages.; 7-60 ff. (numbered on left page); [5] pages.
  • Illustrated with portrait and three leaves of stills from the stage production.
  • Inscribed by Beckett to another writer: "for Dan Pope from Sam Beckett".
  • Additionally signed by Grove Press publisher Barney Rosset.
  • In dustwrapper, housed in a quarter morocco and cloth clamshell case.

Probably the scarcest and most preferred issue of the Nobel Prize winner's most famous title, one of the great works of the world stage. A major innovation in modern drama, possibly the most important play of the 20th Century, and certainly the first theatrical success of the Theatre of the Absurd.
