A first edition, second state of Twain's The Prince and the Pauper.
The Prince and the Pauper, set in 1537, was the first of Clemens's historical novels and was inspired by Charlotte Yonge's Little Duke (1854), which Clemens found in his sister-in-law's library at Quarry Farm.
