  • Ivan Krylov (Russian).
  • Basni I. Krylova [Krylov's Fables].
  • St Petersburg: A.S. Suvorin, 1895.
  • Octavo.

An excellent illustrated edition of Krylov's fables in a wonderful Art Nouveau binding.

Ivan Krylov (1769-1844) is Russia's best known fabulist. While many of his earlier fables were loosely based on Aesop's and La Fontaine's, later fables were original work, often satirizing the incompetent bureaucracy that stifled social progress at the time.
