Description
The first and only edition of The Log of the Good Ship, by Dr. Seuss under the pseudonym 'Old Captain Taylor.'
A ship's log with jaunty marketer's text by Esso (formerly Standard Oil, later Exxon). Issued nearly two decades before Seuss would become a household name, he illustrated advertisements for various companies including Ford, NBC, and Standard Oil. This postwar follow-up to Esso's two previous Secrets of the Deep, likewise written by Seuss as "Old Captain Taylor," rises above its petroleum-advertising origins by virtue of Seuss's charming and playful illustrations, typical of his best advertising work.
