Description
Illustration drawing for the Mother Goose book of the character Old King Cole.
After Denslow's death, a cache of his art was discovered in 1939. Buffalo publishers Baldwin & Strachan used them to issue a pamphlet of Mother Goose rhymes that same year. The art is described in Greene and Hearn's biography of Denslow, saying in part that "it is likely that Denslow drew the pictures for one of his advertising pamphlets. The pictures first appeared in Youth Magazine, a hand-out to patrons of Dodd's Dairy in Buffalo. In issue eleven, this pamphlet was announced as available from Dodd's milkmen for ten cents."
