  • Part of an edition of 400 of the "Third Printing," produced by Whitman for the sole purpose of distribution to his personal friends. 
  • Inscribed by Whitman's literary executor, friend and biographer, Horace Traubel, to bibliographer Henry Buxton Forman, on front free endpaper, "To H. Buxton Forman with the love of Horace Traubel July 1896. / Special Edition."
  • Bound in publisher's dark green cloth-covered beveled boards, stamped in gilt, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, bookplates of Estelle Doheny and Buxton-Forman to pastedown.
