Description
A finely bound edition of Miniature Painters by George C. Williamson.
The 10 portrait miniatures of young ladies are after the work of Andrew or Nathaniel Plimer, in Georgian dresses with some bonnets and ribbons and beads, often on blue backgrounds. The Plimer brothers came from a clock-making family, but the elder one, Andrew, soon discovered his vocation as an artist after he was employed as a servant in the home of Richard Cosway, already high in his profession as a miniaturist. Although the miniatures are unsigned their high quality is a sure indication that they are the work of C.B. Currie.
The ten women are:
Fay Templeton
Miss. E. Grosvenor
Rebecca wife of John 1st Lord Northwick
Miss. Bedingfield
Georgianna Duchess of Devonshire
Duchess of Bedford
Miss. Lockwood
Harriet Rushout
Lady Norwick
Mrs. Dawes.
