Description

American Victorian acid-etched sterling silver serving dish.

  • Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York.
  • Rectangular well and scrolling, asymmetrical turned-down rim.
  • Bracket-shaped ends with leaf-mounted scroll handles, and corner fruiting grapevine supports.
  • Well has acid-etched leafing scrollwork and flower baskets.
  • Sides have embossed and stippled lobing with corner volute scrolls.
  • Applied cherubs brandishing arrows and flower baskets.
  • Well and side lobes gilt-washed.
  • Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern number 8165 (first produced in 1884) and director’s letter M (1873–91).
