Description

19th-century Japanese Meiji period monumental silver bowl.

  • Embossed with a continuous landscape and large cherry tree and blossom in high relief on matted hand-hammered ground.
  • Standing on a domed base, decorated with flowing foliage and two gilt Japanese imperial chrysanthemum seals.
  • The base stamped silver (950 silver standard), used primary in the Meiji period for items made for export (1868-1912).
  • Maker's mark unknown.
