Description

German Art Nouveau sterling silver large punch bowl and ladle.

  • The bowl raised on four spreading scroll feet, decorated throughout with floral motifs and applied with unusual flowing handles.
  • Engraved in Cyrillic on one side: "To the great founder of life, dear Pavel Nikolaevich Shatilov, Officers of the Chernamorsk (Black Sea), Kozak Army, Kokan, Turkey"; and on the other, the ranks and names of the soldiers who gave him this gift (...).
  • Hallmarked German Silver (900 Standard), year 1900, Maker Gustav Memmert (M) (active in Berlin, 1890–1930), also with Russian import mark (used 1908–1917).
