Description

A set of sterling silver yacht trophy tumblers from Maryland makers.

  • Sold as a set of 12.
  • Presented as racing trophies by the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford, Maryland.
  • The first was awarded in 1943 to the suggestively named Tart, with more victories in the late 1940s and early '50s.
  • The last cup is dated 1965, and while the name of the yacht is no longer cited, all belonged to the Comet Class, a snug two-crew boat that was developed in Maryland in the 1930s.
  • Two cups have applied enamel club burger.
  • Evocative of the mid-century idyll with strong regional associations.
  • All cups fully marked, ten with Schofield maker’s stamp and no. 444 and two have Stieff maker’s stamp and nos. 0707/4 and 0707/6.
