Description
American hammered sterling silver seahorse flask.
- Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1882.
- Oval with curved sides and flat front and back.
- On front is seahorse with ribbed body and volute-scroll tail floating amongst seagrass.
- Back engraved with interlaced script monogram.
- Allover spot-hammered ground.
- Short neck with ball bearing-style beading.
- Cork-lined cover is hinged and threaded.
- Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern number 6855 (first produced in 1882) and director’s letter M (1873-91).
Condition Report
Patination and wear consistent with age and use.
Partially effaced maker’s stamp due to solder repair.
