Description

This etching with aquatint is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Léger” at the lower right margin. It is hand numbered in pencil from the edition of 200, beside the signature. The work inscribed on the plate “Grave par Jacques Villon 1928", at the lower left part of the image. It was printed by Jacques Villon and published by Galerie Bernheim-Jeune, Paris in a limited edition of 200 impressions in 1928.


This etching is based on the painting “Femme tenant un vase” [Woman holding Vase] of 1927.


Léger painted several different versions of this motif. The etching is mostly likely based on the version of 1927 which is today in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
