In 1924, Gaston Ries started a watchmaking workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1955, Ries joined with his nephew René Bannwart, and together, they transformed the workshop into a watchmaking company with its own brand Corum.
The word "quorum" signifies the minimum number of persons required to approve a decision, and it fascinated the two men. Shortly after, they simplified the spelling as Corum and decided to use it for their name brand. The founders of Corum made a clear determination to position the brand at the vanguard of the Swiss watch industry. Since the mid 1950s, Corum has produced numerous innovative designs and original mechanisms and models whose dials explore the métiers d'art.
