The art world was also much smaller at the time, so if you mailed out 200 invites, you were reaching a good core of the art world." (Rosen). Raymond Pettibon&nbsp;is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by&nbsp;William Blake,&nbsp;Edward Hopper,&nbsp;Francisco Goya, and&nbsp;John Sloan&nbsp;as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. He went on to produce cover art for Sonic Youth, the Minutemen, and the Foo Fighters. In 2017, the artist was the subject of the major retrospective “Raymond Pettibon: A Pen of All Work,” held at the New Museum in New York, where he currently lives and works. Today, his works can be found in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London, among others.

In 1943, Lichtenstein was drafted into the army, serving for three years before returning to school. In 1949, he received an MFA, and continued to teach and paint in Ohio for several years. His early 1950s works, painted in a European Modernist style, frequently depict uniquely “American” subjects, including scenes of western expansion and an adaptation of Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze’s famous Washington Crossing the Delaware (1871). In the 1960s, Lichtenstein moved to New Jersey to teach at Rutgers University, and began his iconic comic strip works, which marked a distinct break with his previous aesthetic. Lichtenstein was motivated to create works that no one would want to hang on the walls, later commenting, “The one thing everyone hated was commercial art; apparently they didn’t hate that enough, either.” A solo show of such works at the Leo Castelli Gallery in 1962 garnered him critical acclaim and notoriety in the art world. His work continued to incorporate pop culture themes, displaying static images of figures, brushstrokes, landscapes, mirrors, reflections and other subject matter in an ironic style. His later works feature close examinations of illusionism and the representation of reality in art. A very prolific, celebrated and sought-after artist, Lichtenstein created many public sculptures during his lifetime, and his work has been the subject of many retrospectives around the world. He died in New York City in 1997 at 74 years old.

This home ‘City Edition’ <a href="https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/luxury/collectibles/collectible/sports-memorabilia/NBA-auctions?locale=en" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">jersey</a> was worn by Bam Adebayo on January 17, 2025, when the Miami Heat played the Denver Nuggets. Adebayo recorded a double-double, finishing with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Heat lost to the Nuggets, 133-113.&nbsp; Coming out of the University of Kentucky, there was little question about Bam Adebayo’s physical traits. Despite his supreme athleticism, Bam, at 6’9”, was considered an undersized Forward/Center who didn’t shoot from the perimeter. The Heat drafted Bam with the 14th pick in the 1st round of the 2017 NBA Draft, and questions about his game were quickly dispelled by his play on the defensive side of the ball and playmaking ability. Bam broke out in his 3rd season, being named to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time and playing a vital role in the Miami Heat’s run to the 2019-2020 NBA Finals. Bam has improved each season offensively, averaging a career-best 21 points per game in the 2023-2024 season.&nbsp;&nbsp; At the time of cataloging, he has career averages of 15.5 points per game, 8.9 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game. S&amp;S are equipped for that kind of a Rainbowproduction, they have a subsidiary color outfit called Sandpeper Press and they are going to do it, first printing 150 000, they asked for additional illustrations beside the ones in Holiday, will be able to manufacture the book for about 60 cents, and have offered me a plan, simple and foolproof, whereby I can keep some money (Capital Gains setup). I am greedy enough to like all that very much. … I am telling you this, so that you know, I am thinking of you. On Dirty Eddy’s part, I will not venture my suggestions for advertising, there is a dark rumor going around, to the effect that a publisher has offered me fifteen thousand advance on an unpublished book and a guarantee of 10 000 in advertising, don’t believe that when you hear it, the truth is 25 000 advance, and 15 000 for advertising, But I love you all, and if Dirty Eddie sells 100 000 copies or over, I’ll stay. I’m working … on a new novel, called ‘The One I Loved the Best.’” Holiday magazine had commissioned several illustrated travel pieces from Bemelmans around this time, and “Holiday in Europe” almost certainly refers to The Best of Times, An Account of Europe Revisited, which was published by Simon &amp; Schuster in 1948. Yet Marshall Best and Bemelmans must have resolved their differences, for Dirty Eddie was published in 1947 and Viking continued to publish Bemelmans for years to come. Best was an editor at Covici-Friede and then at Viking, and during a career that stretched into the 1970s, he edited Steinbeck and Bemelmans, Nadine Gordimer, the Viking Portable Library, as well as many other notable authors.&nbsp;With three additional letters, dated early 1962:&nbsp;1) Autograph note, signed, 11 January 1962, concerning a Bemelmans picture “not very happily framed” with suggestions for reframing it with a velvet Marie Louise or mat2) Typed note, signed, 27 February 1962, concerning the proofs for Noah's Ark [On Board Noah’s Ark], “I think this will be a real good sail, all the stars are in their good places for us …”3) Autograph note, signed, March 1962, “I think it’s all right to leave that Picture in that Bar and grill frames with its phony wormholes for the summer.”
