Dramatic, refined and beautifully balanced, it is a superb example of early 20th-century luxury advertising. Founded in Switzerland in 1832, Longines became internationally renowned for precision timekeeping, elegant watches and its winged hourglass trademark. This poster reflects the prestige of the brand at a time when illustrated advertising was central to creating modern commercial identity. The winged figure perfectly suggests accuracy, speed and elegance. Leonetto Cappiello is often regarded as one of the fathers of modern advertising poster design. His posters used bold figures, strong silhouettes and vivid contrasts to make brands instantly memorable.

With the Hollywood Bowl lit beneath a starry sky and klieg lights cutting the darkness into bold modernist shapes, it sells Southern California at its most cinematic. The aircraft shown is a Lockheed L-49 Constellation, one of the great icons of post-war air travel and among the first pressurized airliners adapted for wide commercial use. In the 1950s, TWA turned travel into fantasy: sleek, modern, exciting and full of possibility. Los Angeles was the perfect subject, with its film-world glamour, sunshine and effortless cool. David Klein’s TWA posters are mid-century design classics, loved for their punchy color, clean forms and brilliant sense of place.

The poster’s confident typography and upscale aesthetic reflect the café’s ambition to present its products as synonymous with quality, modernity, and urban refinement during a flourishing period for French advertising. Georges Nicolitch, active in the early- to mid-20th century, produced striking posters characterized by elegant figures, sharp silhouettes, and a strong Art Deco sensibility. His designs often balanced glamour with commercial clarity, making his work especially prized among collectors of vintage French advertising.

Perhaps Cappiello's most famous poster with the infamous green fairy imagery commonly associated with absinthe. Maurin Quina went out of production the year this poster was printed and only recently became re-introduced on the French market.

Made with orange peels, gentian root, and cinchona, Amer Picon appears in the original recipes for many classic cocktails.
