Description

Federal dark and light alternating figured mahogany gentleman's desk and bookcase with gilt eagle signed by Ebenezer Eustis of Salem, Massachusetts.

  • Scalloped crest topped with turned urns with banded molding.
  • Three divided glass display sections with shelves and four doors secured by small locks.
  • Two large bottom drawers with locks, two small drawers with oval brass hardware and two bottom hinged locking cupboards.
  • Six tapered legs.
  • Secondary wood: White pine.

Originally owned by John Wheelock, President of Dartmouth College and son of its founder, Eleazar Wheelock.

Exhibition
