Description

German large 800 silver Bonaparte box.

  • Made by Georg Roth in Hanau, Germany.
  • Rectangular with cast corner-mounted eagle supports.
  • On box front is frieze of Napoleon being offered the key to a city; on back, he addresses the supplicating vanquished.
  • Both panels bordered by imbricated leaves and Greek key; applied eagles (of which one is a keyhole plate) and military trophies.
  • On box ends are the coat of arms.
  • Cover hinged and raised with cast finial in form of Napoleon on horseback, pointing the way.
  • On battleground are the strewn weapons and equipment of the defeated enemy. 
  • Marks include Hanau maker’s stamp.
