Description

A katazome stencil print in a wooden frame.

  • Sadao Wantanabe 渡辺 禎雄 (Japanese, 1913 -1996).
  • Famous for his biblical prints rendered in the mingei tradition of Japan, he was a student of the master textile dye artist Serizawa Keisuke, and was associated with the mingei (folk art) movement.
  • Numbered 20/100 at lower left.
  • Signed and dated Sadao Wantanabe 1986 at lower right.
  • Gallery label on verso.
