Description

A Japanese kimono from the Taishō period.

  • Raoul Dufy (French, 1877–1953) worked in the Impressionist, Fauvist and Cubist styles, and was also a successful textile designer for Bianchini-Ferier, whose patterns were used by prestigious Parisian couturiers Poiret and Charvet.
  • In this silk kimono, made in the meisen technique, the aesthetic is reminiscent of Raoul Dufy’s style, with its colors and loose brushstrokes which can be seen in Dufy's work Fruit Bowl, Bananas and Fruit on an Entablature from 1905.
