Description

French Empire gilt bronze chariot clock surmounted by a bronze putto in Zeus’ chariot, drawn by two eagles through the clouds.

  • Left side with classical ewer and snake-form handle.
  • Base with bas-relief representing Ganymede, cupbearer of the gods, pouring nectar to Zeus, as well as military trophies, an eagle and a pair of dogs.
  • The case stands on claw feet enclosing a flattened ball.

Gilding is intact, smooth and even throughout the majority of the piece, apart from the reins held by the putto and the female mask ornamenting the back of the carriage.

Patina of the putto is in very good condition.
