Description

Black lacquered case holding a carved standing figure of the Amitabha Buddha.

  • Carried by Buddhist monks while traveling as a focal point for meditation and devotion.
  • Standing with the right hand raised in abhayamudra for protection, the other in varadamudra for the gift.
  • Interior covered in gold leaf.

Signs of wear to gilded interior.

Patina and wear to Buddha with separation and loss to base, the raised hand missing and lower arm being reattached.
