Description

A set of Japanese tea plates or trays from the Meiji period.

  • Sold as a set of 5.
  • Rare rectangular form with dark iron brown decoration against a cream-colored glaze with fine overall crackle.
  • Made since the 16th century in the Gifu Prefecture, shino-yaki, also referred to as white Oribe, was treasured by tea masters for its inherent wabi-sabi aesthetic due to inconsistencies in the glaze.
  • Potters mark to bottoms.
