Description

Signed and framed gouache on paper of tropical birds and petrels by Keith Shackleton (English, 1925–2015).

  • Shackleton was a well-known British naturalist and artist.
  • Signed lower left.
  • Shackleton was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2012 for his efforts as an artist for services to the conservation of wildlife.
  • A retrospective exhibition of his Polar Art depicting creatures from the Arctic and Antarctic was held at the Scott Polar Research Institute in 2007.
  • Shackleton's grandfather was the world-famous British explorer Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton who led multiple expeditions to Antarctica, and famously was able to save his entire crew which was ice-locked for a period of months.
