David Coughtry has been a professor of painting at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois for the past fifteen years. Prior to that, David spent many years living in Mt. Dora, Florida. David's paintings are executed largely from life and depict his subject matter in direct observation of nature. His ability to render subjects faithfully but with a personal vision is immediately evident to anyone who sees his paintings. Whether it's capturing the late afternoon sun breaking through storm clouds over the Florida marshlands, or memorializing the sunlit warmth of a snowy landscape at Olana, David's unique ability to interpret his subject matter in a traditionally academic yet thoroughly contemporary viewpoint is readily seen.
