Description

NIKE, NIKE AIR JORDAN VIII, SIZE 13

Rubber, Leather, Cotton, Synthetic

1993

Michael Jordan’s name has become synonymous with greatness. The NBA legend’s unprecedented success as an athlete is well-documented and may never be replicated – 6 NBA championships, 6 Finals MVPs, 5 league MVPs, and 2 Olympic Gold Medals are just a few of Jordan’s on-court accomplishments. Many consider Jordan to be the greatest athlete who ever lived.

Offered in this lot is a pair of Nike Air Jordan VIII Sneakers, with wear, possibly attributed to the final Bulls’ home game of the 1992-1993 season. The game would prove to be Jordan’s final regular season game at Chicago Stadium.

Jordan played 46 minutes on April 22nd 1993. He recorded 36 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the Bulls’ 109-103 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

The sneakers are accompanied by a letter of opinion by Resolution Photomatching and by a letter of provenance, from a previous auction sale. The letter reads:

I obtained these shoes from Michael Jordan in the locker room after the April 22, 1993 regular season game vs. the Detroit Pistons.

I had been asking Michael for a pair of shoes the entire season, and he finally gave

me these after the last home game in the regular season.

I worked for Andy Frain Services on contract to the Chicago Bulls ticketing office for

9 years. I attest to the authenticity of these shoes.

The 1992-1993 Season

Michael Jordan and the Bulls entered the 1992-93 season in pursuit of the NBA’s first three-peat in nearly three decades. The team cruised through the regular season with 57 wins, while Jordan delivered another dominant campaign, averaging 32.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 78 games played.

Despite the effort, Jordan finished as the MVP runner-up to Charles Barkley of the Phoenix Suns— who he and the Bulls would battle in the 1993 NBA Finals.

The 1993 Finals marked what appeared, at the time, to be the closing chapter of Michael Jordan’s legendary career. Following this championship, Jordan announced his retirement, stepping away from basketball to pursue a career in baseball and grieve the tragic loss of his father, James Jordan. The Bulls’ triumph in 1993 not only capped an era of dominance but also felt like the culmination of Jordan’s unparalleled journey in the sport—a legacy that, unbeknownst to the world, was far from finished.
