“Defining the gray area between black and white as the color Off-White” is the brand motto declared by Off-White founder and multi-hyphenate Virgil Abloh. An architect turned artist and designer, Abloh defied any restrictive labeling on his creativity. Instead, he considered himself a “maker,” poised to disrupt the existing fashion landscape. Launched in 2013, Abloh’s brand Off-White did just that. By highlighting classics and embracing collaboration, Off-White seamlessly merged streetwear and luxury in an unprecedented way.
Off-White was built out of Abloh’s “3% rule”: the premise that it only takes a 3% change for an existing design to evolve into something new and radical. In extending Off-White’s signature diagonal stripes and ironic quotation marks to all forms of brand collaboration—from the likes of Nike and Kith to IKEA—Virgil Abloh mastered the art of converting the familiar into the unexpected.
The 2021 “Dear Summer” collection consisted of 50 different Nike Dunks executed with the famous Off-White overlace system. This lot 09 is composed of a leather and canvas upper, with pink laces and an orange tongue.
