Description

Richard Chase (American, 1891-1985).

This work is offered framed.


Born in Columbus, Kansas, Richard Chase studied at the Art Institute of Chicago (1919-1925) under Karl Buehr, Leon Kroll and George Oberteuffer and, subsequently, at the Cape Cod School of Art under Charles Hawthorne and Richard Miller. Over the course of a long career, Chase exhibited widely and with success including at the Chicago Artists Exhibitions, the International Watercolor Exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Arts Club of Washington, D.C. and the Haish Memorial Gallery, among others, and was awarded the Julius Rosenwald Purchase Prize from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1928. Chase was a member of both the All-Illinois Society of the Fine Arts and Chicago Galleries Association, and was selected as an illustrator and muralist for Chicago's Century of Progress Exposition (1933).
