A substantial oil landscape showing a view of a lake in California's High Sierras beneath clouded blue skies.
Frey first studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, opening his first San Francisco studio in 1915 during the Panama Pacific International Exposition when he painted many harbor scenes in and around the bay. By 1928, he had settled in Southern California, where he painted and exhibited widely and with success, including in Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Santa Barbara. Frey was the recipient of numerous medals and juried awards and was a longtime member of the Society of Painters & Sculptors of Los Angeles. He is well-listed in art reference works including "Artists in California, 1786-1940."
