Description

George Shaw (American, 1915-1995).

A loose and breezy river landscape, showing a view across fresh spring flowers and grasses towards several small sailboats making their way on the Loire, with a view beyond of terracotta-tiled cottages nestled in lush riverside woodlands, all beneath clouded blue skies.


Painter, ceramist and educator, George Shaw exhibited with success in New York in the 1960s and '70s, including in his home county of Putnam, in South Orange and elsewhere. George Shaw was a Putnam Arts Council board member and a scholarship was endowed in his memory to assist in the education of future generations of artists.
