Description

Marie Stobbe (American, 1909-2003)

This work is offered in a foliate carved giltwood frame


Marie B. Stobbe studied painting at numerous accredited schools and institutes, including the Pratt Institute and the Grand Central School of Art with Ogden Pleissner, Wayman Adams and Howard Hildebrandt. She also studied in Madison, Connecticut, under Robert Brackman and earlier with George Bruestle and Emile Gruppé.


Marie’s accolades include being the first woman inducted into The Pastel Society of America and was also inducted into The International Society of the Artists. Marie drew sketches for The New York Herald Tribune and designed select book covers for Dodd Mead, one of the pioneer publishing houses of the United States.
