Description

Centering a polygonal mirror cut beryl.

  • Beryl weighs 9.56 carats
  • 18 karat yellow gold
  • Size N, US 7

Hand-carved in wax, cast with lost wax technique and hand-fabricated by Melanie Eddy. Polished and finished by hand with both high-polish finish and Melanie’s signature satin finish. Featuring a stunning golden beryl, otherwise known as heliodor, translated from Greek to mean “gift from the sun.” The chartreuse yellow hues of the Anthem ring reference new life and growth. The visible inclusions and imperfections amplified by the mirrored cut of the gem coax us to spot beauty in unexpected places and to embrace imperfection. Revealing our vulnerabilities and imperfections and continuing to put our best efforts forward can challenge the cult of perfection and inspire others to create who are held back by the fear of imperfection. “Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.” ~ Leonard Cohen, Song: Anthem, Album: The Future.

This piece is part of Sotheby's Brilliant and Black, the selling exhibition dedicated to showcasing the extraordinary skill, imagination and craftsmanship of Black jewelry designers.
